There Are No Ordinary Moments

The other day I was in the grocery store. After spending about an hour of shopping I header to the checkout station. As I stood in the checkout line I observed a man franticly moving through the store. He seemed to be stressed or in a hurry and looked a little out of sorts, as he grabbed a soda from the cold case. Then he got in line behind me. My cart was full and he only had a soda and a bag of chips, so I asked him if he would like to go ahead of me. He was happy with that idea and moved in front of me.

I watched the checker ring him up and then grab her clear plastic Starbucks water cup with a lid and straw. She was rubbing her hands on the droplets of water left from the melted ice. She looked at me and started to tell me how her hands hurt. They were chapped and she needed lotion. I reached into my purse and pulled out a small travel size lotion and gave it to her. The man who was now paying for his soda and chips said, “Wow! You’re just full of kindness today.” “Are you trying to get brownie points for your halo?”

I just smiled back at him and thought to myself, “My halo is already full.” Then I pictured a beautiful, round, golden halo above my head. The man must have subconsciously seen my full halo glowing, because he did a double take. He kept starting at the top of my head. It was if he couldn’t take his eyes off the top of my head. I noticed the more he looked at the halo the lighter his energy got. Where his energy was once an ash color his energy was now becoming brighter. Then he started to relax and he even smiled, as a peacefulness settled over him.

The checker chirped in chatting on how appreciative she was that I gave her lotion and what a live saver I was, as she rubbed her hands together with the smooth, soft white lotion. I noticed her eyes now twinkled with delight whereas before they were dark and hollow. I also observed the woman behind me was now smiling at what transpired, instead of being impatient. It seemed that this section of the store became brighter and the people seemed happier.

The learning: When you are peaceful and calm you can observe others better. If you are able to help them, it comes from your heart with no strings attached. It’s my hope that when I help a person that they will pass it on, which will touch another life. You’ll never know how many lives you can touch by helping one person. If the gift isn’t passed along, then I lighten someone that day and helped them to remember who they really are. A spiritual being in a human body. How are you going to help someone today?
